A revolution in IWC watch design
As aIWCAs the most technologically advanced watch collection within the brand, the Ingenieur line upholds engineering design, superior performance, and technical innovation, all of which demonstrate IWC's passion for technological innovation.
In the 50s, electromagnetic radiation fields generated by many technological products severely affected the timekeeping precision of watches, and engineers worked within electromagnetic radiation fields more often than most. Since then, IWC has been dedicated to improving the anti-magnetic performance of its watches, protecting the movement from magnetic field effects, and subsequently introducing a watch collection tailored specifically for the engineering profession, directly named "Ingenieur".
The first Ingenieur watch was launched in 1955, and its bi-directional winding automatic movement was created by Albert Pellaton, IWC's Technical Director at the time. The famous Pellaton winding system utilises the bi-directional oscillation of the rotor, making it more efficient than traditional single-winding mechanisms—a technology still widely used by IWC today.

In the early 1970s, independent watch designer Gérald Genta drew inspiration from diving helmets to create a modern design language full of technical charm, sparking a revolution in watch design. Rather than concealing screws and functional screw holes, Genta highlighted them on the bezel. He designed the legendary 1832 Ingenieur SL watch for IWC. Launched in 1976, its striking design exudes masculinity throughout—rugged, robust, dynamic, and full of technical charm, and to this day it remainsIWC Ingenieur collection watcha typical characteristic of.

In 2013, following the establishment of a comprehensive partnership between IWC and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team, IWC drew inspiration from F1 Formula One. By incorporating typical materials from the motorsport repertoire, such as carbon, ceramic, and titanium, the brand charted a new course for the design of the Ingenieur collection. IWC utilises cutting-edge technology and exquisite craftsmanship to create the most technologically advanced Ingenieur timepieces.

As a tribute to the global partnership between IWC and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team, the Ingenieur Automatic AMG Black Series Ceramic shares many common traits with the Mercedes-AMG racing car—uniqueness, high performance, practicality, reliability, and superior quality. Designers have elegantly applied the AMG black colour scheme to this 3225 Ingenieur Automatic AMG Black Series Ceramic, creating a mesmerising visual effect on the surface that shifts between the high-gloss of piano lacquer and the understated matte of silk, resulting in a truly striking appearance.
Inspired by the high-efficiency ceramic brake discs of AMG racing cars, the case of the Ingenieur Automatic AMG Black Series Ceramic—including the bezel, case back ring, crown, and robust crown protection—is crafted from black zirconium oxide. The prominent screws on the bezel secure the sapphire crystal, case, and sapphire crystal case back in both directions, a technical design language derived from the legendary Ingenieur SL designed by Gérald Genta.
