IWC Aquatimer Chronograph face-to-face with the "King of the Oceans"
2016 12 13 — SchaffhausenIWChas launched a special edition diver's watch in its iconic Aquatimer collection, limited to 500 pieces, featuring a hammerhead shark engraving on the case back. The Aquatimer Chronograph Edition "Sharks" is exclusively available with Michael Muller's book of the same name. This limited collector's edition TASCHEN book is signed by the photographer and presented in a realistic, shark-bite-proof metal cage. American photographer Muller is famous for his portraits of Hollywood stars. Over the past few years, he has captured shark species around the globe with unprecedented technical precision.

Today, more and more shark species face extinction. Over 1 million sharks are killed every year; furthermore, continuous overfishing also threatens their food sources. "Protecting endangered species is a core theme for IWC in terms of environmental protection. This is why we have been working closely with the Charles Darwin Foundation since 2009, supporting its numerous projects, such as the protection of shark populations in the Galapagos Marine Reserve," explained Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen. To raise awareness for shark conservation, IWC has now introduced an exclusive special edition timepiece in its iconicAquatimer diver's watch collection.

IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Edition "Sharks" (Ref: IW379506) China Retail Price: RMB 86,000
The Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Shark” (reference: IW379506) is limited to 500 pieces, and the case back features an engraving depicting a school of hammerhead sharks swimming through the ocean. The distinctive grey dial takes its inspiration from the colour of sharks. This chronograph features a stainless steel case, is powered by the IWC 89365-calibre manufacture movement, is water-resistant to 30 bar, and boasts a flyback function, an automatic winding system, and a 68-hour power reserve. Dive times can be set using the mechanical internal and external rotating bezel. This IWC innovation combines the excellent legibility of the rotating inner bezel with the ease of use of the rotating outer bezel. The IWC SafeDive System ensures that the rotating inner bezel can only be adjusted anti-clockwise. The dial, hands and rotating inner bezel are coated with luminescence, ensuring the wearer can read the time clearly even underwater.

A bold underwater mission without protective cages
This exclusive Aquatimer model is sold exclusively alongside Michael Muller's photobook, Sharks. The American photographer is renowned for his portraits of the world's most famous actors, musicians and sports stars. For the past decade, he has devoted himself to shark photography. Without the usual protective iron cages, he swims with these predators in the deep sea, capturing close-up shots of sharks using 1,200-watt underwater strobe lights. Through exceptional technique and sensitivity, he succeeds in capturing these fascinating animals. The renowned publishing house TASCHEN has meticulously collected his spectacular photographs and published them in an oversized photobook. These books are personally signed by the photographer and bound in a striking iron cage designed to withstand shark bites.
