Swiss ETA2836-2 movement

ETA2836 is the most common original Swiss movement used in replica watches. Many original authentic watches also use it; its greatest advantages are stable quality, sufficient spare parts, and ease of maintenance. It can be said that it is an outstanding representative of Swiss mechanical movements and the development of the Swiss watch industry.
The famous ETA2836 movement was born in 1982. The biggest change in the 2836 movement was some improvements to the ETA2824 base plate, which gave the 2836 movement a double calendar and bilingual day function. Today's mass-produced Swiss watches basically use the 2836 movement.

In fact, the brand does not matter; ETA provides OEM services to various watch manufacturers, which involves marking the brand logo on the oscillating weight. If you want to change it, you can easily make it into brands like Tissot, Titoni, or Enicar. The image below shows the white steel engraved 2836-2 movement used by Tissot.
There are also those that use the ETA 2836-2 'red' movement, which refers to an unfinished base movement. However, the colour is that of a copper alloy, not rose gold, and the cost is around two thousand yuan. But with nickel and rhodium plating, various decorative patterns, and the installation of higher-grade hairsprings and balance wheels, the appearance is very dazzling, and it can easily pass chronometer testing standards. For example, the 2836-2 'red' movement installed in the Rolex replica watch shown below.

Adopting a modular design is a major feature of ETA movements. For example, most parts of ETA2836, 2824, and 2834 can be interchanged, and the automatic winding drive module and mainspring module use the same standards and dimensions. The benefit of this is that it can greatly reduce production costs and time, just like how Ford first used standard parts and assembly line processes, which greatly reduced the production cost of cars! The same principle applies to making them accessible to the general public!
The automatic winding drive module of ETA2836, the drive module of 2836, and the drive modules of 2824 and 2834 are of the same standard and size. The automatic winding drive module of this 2836 movement is fixed by two blued steel screws on the left and right; 2824 and 2834 are also fixed in this way.
This 2836 movement is a 25-jewel movement. Some lower-end movements use 21-jewel movements. In fact, the 25-jewel movement just has 8 more jewels in the mainspring drive module; the 21-jewel movement has 4 fewer jewels in this area, with one fewer in each of the two gears, and one gear lacks a jewel bearing. When this drive module is removed, it effectively becomes a 17-jewel manual-winding movement.
The difference between 21 jewels (i.e., the ETA2846 movement) and 2836 also lies in the frequency; the ETA2836 is a high-frequency movement with a frequency of 28800 per hour, while the ETA2846 is a fast-beat movement with a frequency of 21600 per hour.
This is the oscillating weight, which features the brand logo on top. The oscillating weight uses ball bearings and is secured by a central screw.

On the reverse of the oscillating weight, the transmission gear and ball bearings are integrated. Unlike the ETA2892, the transmission gear of the 2836 is relatively smaller. Additionally, the 2892 uses 3 screws to secure the oscillating weight.
Once the transmission module is removed, it becomes a 17-jewel high-frequency manual-winding watch. If the transmission module is not reinstalled, it functions as a 17-jewel high-frequency manual-winding watch.
